Keratoconus can be likened to water behind the Hoover Dam. The integrity of the structure of the dam is important to keep the water behind. If the dam starts sagging than struts may be necessary. This is similar to the effect of Intacs. Another method may be to strengthen the structure of the dam itself. This can be achieved in the cornea by creating bonding (or increasing love) between the collagen fibers. This is known as collagen cross linking.
If you are interested in keratoconus but are unsure which treatment is best for you, call or email to schedule your consultation with Dr. Khanna at the Khanna Institute today.
